Re: Doris Day on Live Radio Shows 40's/50's
Peter, Thank You for posting your new great finds in the form of 16" transcriptions. Happy to hear you were able to get recordings made for you. The new "songs" are now part of the Doris Day Definitive Discography. Am very curious about the song "Night and Day." How is Miss Day's interpretation of the song? Please share your reaction to the song. Thanks again and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Hi Texas,
This one is a mono track, but the same track from: Hooray For Hollywood, but the (fault/rare noise from the Columbia records /it's on all my cd's/lp's/ is missing)
So somewhere out there… there must be a clear version of: Night And Day on a mastertrack.

Peter, thanks for your prompt reponse to my post and question. As to your question on the "Strawberry Moon" Day/Clark recording, sorry to report no progress. Turntables are difficult to acquire, and as I mentioned earlier mine broke down leaving me with no means of transferring the disk to tape and eventually to CD format. But hopefully I can eventually accomplish this, so everyone can listen to the two songs I heard only once. Keep the faith and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Neat find, Peter. There's a book titled "The History of AFRTS: the First 50 Years." I need to get rid of a few books from my shelves before I can buy more, but that one's on my wish list.

Hi Judy,
If things go well, I will have that AFRS book you mentioned too. I will keep you updated. I found a new Fitch Bandwagon 108 Transcription Record. A very nice Facebook friend: Karl Pearson transferred it to mp3. It has a very rare version of: "Swinging On A Star" by Doris Day, Butch Stone, The Foresters & Les Brown I hadn't heard before.

Hi radio (Doris Day) friends…
Does anyone of you have an 78 RPM inside out record player? I bought a record online... Not sure if it's Doris and Les Brown... But it could be: it's from 1944-12-20 and the song is called: "Is You Is, Or Is You Ain't, My Baby" It could be a new discovery. If not… no problem…

Hope to hear from you.

Re: Doris Day on Live Radio Shows 40's/50's
Hi, Peter -
This is really an unusual purchase. I don't have that kind of record player, though.
The song was a #1 hit in 1943 for its writer, Louis Jordan, who also recorded it as side B of a V-disc in March of '44. Side A of that disc was a Les Brown recording of a different song, but it didn't feature Doris on the vocal. As far as the date of December 20, 1944 that's shown on your record, the only thing I can tell you is that Doris sang with Les Brown at the Hotel Pennsylvania on that date; however, my notes don't show which songs she sang that night. Wish I could help you, but I'm at a dead end on this one.

Peter, thanks for the new information on AFRS ONS #1084. That was a complete blank in the Doris Day Definitive Discography. Not now. On that particular ONS was the #9 song Sentimental Journey sung by Doris Day? Thanks again and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Hi all,
Bought a book online called: Les Brown and His Orchestra by Charles Garrod - from Joyce Record Club publication (1986 version) It's a good read for someone who's doing research on Doris/Les Browns music career. I've updated my online radio list with a lot of information from here. viewtopic.php?f=10&t=694&p=62590#p62590

Re: Doris Day on Live Radio Shows 40's/50's
Peter, the Les Brown Discography you found served as a basic source when the Doris Day Definitive Discography was formulated. I found it a great help in discovering the Les Brown/Doris Day legacy. In the process I found some errors in the Joyce publication which I corrected using my record collection library and using the data you have discovered and shared with us in The Doris Day Web Forum. Thanks and Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Hi Johnny,
Thanks for your nice reply and I think it's worth to dive into the Doris Day - Les Brown World. They worked together from 1940 till 1950 with three breaks...

4. 1946 - 1948 Starting her solo career on a different radioshows: Rudy Vallee, Jack Kirkwood, Your Hit Parade and others.

Peter, I am never bored with anything you post, As a natter of fact I look forward to your postings, especially when they pertain to Les Brown/Doris Day recordings. I believe the first AFRS on the Amazon product should be for One Night Stand #496 recorded on 15 January 1945. The second one is news to me. My original notes showed there were four recordings for the Hollywood Palladium #682. I have updated the The DDD Discography to show the contents you described. Thanks for making mine a Happy Day. Hi all,
Yesterday I have updated my Doris Day Live Radio list. For the complete list go to: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=694&start=100
I've got two new books now:
One Night Stand Series, 0-1001 by Harry Mckenzie
One Night Stand Series, 1001-4000 by Charles Garrod
They give information about all the One Night Stand shows. And so I have found a lot of detailed information about these shows. And there are more than I could ever dream…
I will follow with a more detailed list later.

Re: Doris Day on Live Radio Shows 40's/50's
Hi all,
Through my facebook friend Karl Pearson we now have the second two One Night Stand Shows available. The Doris songs on the first show ONS#673 are available, two of the songs on ONS#701 weren't… We now have a much better version of: "A Stranger In Town" and a very special song: "Out Of This World" I have never heard Doris singing this way, Les once mentioned that Doris was magical with a lyrical ballad... I think this song is amazing, with Les superb backing behind it. Never heard Doris sing this way. Hope you all enjoy it too.
