A Book All Doris Day Fans Should Read

Unread post by mikeydv » 15 May 2011, 18:58

ANYONE who has not read it who is a Doris Day fan needs to read this book:
A Biographical Guide to the Great Jazz and Pop Singers by Will Friedwald
In it, Mr.Friedwald devotes a chapter to Doris in which he emphatically states
that "she is the best female singer the world has ever known. " And he proceeds to tell
you why. A great read!

Mike is completely right--Lloyd J turned me on to this book earlier this year. There is nothing out there that will tell you as much about hundreds of singers of both popular music and jazz.

It's more than 800 pages long, with NO photos--it's all interesting insight about every important singer--and lesser names are mentioned throughout. The author is funny, obviously well-researched, and not afraid to say what he thinks. Doris' music career is covered in close to eight enlightened pages, and she is noted in others' bios as well.

Anyone tempted by this should read ABOUT the author, Will Friedwald, first, especially on the website of the well-known online book retailer. His background and experience make him qualified above all others to have undertaken this monumental task.
