Long Review of Day-Hudson Movies

Unread post by docwheels »

AVClub - a pop culture site - has a long review on the Doris Day-Rock Hudon movie trilogy; focusing particularly on Pajama Game. Although the piece includes the obligatory analysis of how the Day-Hudson films violate today's gender standards, the author continually returns to the point that the films are fun.

Thanks for this link, Docwheels. Nice to see that the Day-Hudson pairings are still appreciated by some writers, even 60 years after they began.

This is a very nice tribute to the Day / Hudson comedies. I always felt that PT and LCB were as good or better than the Tracy / Hepburn comedies from the late 40's and 50's. The satirical jabs against Madison Avenue in LCB had bite and the gay subtext in PT was pretty daring for its time. I loved seeing Doris play successful businesswomen. She had real presence in those roles and she was a role model for many women at the time.
