I love Audrey Hepburn, she's amazing . I like Bette Davis, Sophia Loren, Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Ginger Roger, and Ava Gardner. Shirley Maclaine is also really good even though she isn't a favorite of mine.
It's a wonderful day for Doris Day <3

Hey Megan...you certainly have mature tastes.

Have to say that other than Doris, I go for DEBORAH KERR. Saw her in person twice in two different plays and she was AMAZING. And "Tea and Sympathy" was a heartbreaking performance, as were KING AND I, HEAVEN KNOWS, MR. ALLISON and FROM HERE TO ETERNITY. She is a dynamite actress (her brother/cousin..John Kerr...ain't half bad either!)

Other top formsters: ANGELA LANSBURY (esp. as MAME on Broadway)
ROZ RUSSELL (in anything at all)
MERYL STREEP (the obvious/ almost a nomination for every picture)

From the silent days, my favorite is Mary Pickford. Also like Colleen Moore and Lillian Gish, who I met once in the late 70's. If you ever have a chance to see a silent film, in a theatre with a real theatre organ as an accompaniment, DO IT! You'll have a new and better understand of silent movies when you can see them as they were intended.

From the 30's, I'd say my favorite in Barbara Stanwyck. She was always good, in anything.

From the 40's, I pick Loretta Young, because she did my favorite Christmas movie in 1947 - "The Bishop's Wife".

From the 50's, besides Doris, I liked Joanne Woodward.

From the 60's, besides Doris, I would jump to the late 60's and choose Katharine Ross, Susan Saint James and Candice Bergen.

If that's a compliment, I'll take it!

Reading everyone's posts have made me remember a few I left out... Angela Lansbury, Julie Andrews, and Barbara Stanwyck. I liked Angela in Bed Knobs And Broomsticks and Murder She Wrote. Julie Andrews in The Sound Of Music. And Barbara in Titanic, I think I prefer the older version of Titanic to the newer one. Mostly because of Ms.Stanwyck's amazing acting!

It's good to hear that other young people like myself like the classic actresses. Most teenagers have never even heard of these wonderful actors and actresses from the 20's-60's and they don't know what they're missing!!

My faves are Doris Day, Audrey Hepburn, Judy Garland, Greer Garson, Grace Kelly, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman... just to name a few. :)

I think we teens who are into the classics have to stick together!

It's exactly the same here. No one in my town had ever heard of Doris Day until I found out and started talking non stop about her... Now the whole town knows who she is! lol

Jane Fonda is one of my all time favourites, absolutely love her. Another one of my faves is Hayley Mills. And then Veronica Lake was excellent in Sullivan's Travels, as was Gene Tierney in Laura.

fontella, Wow, we have a lot in common! I LOVE all these actresses you listed!
Have you ever seen Veronica Lake in, I Married a Witch? I bet the TV shows like Bewitched got their ideas from that movie!
I've loved Jane Fonda since I was a little girl! Her politics, another story, but she is a wonderful actress, and at 70 years old, still very beautiful.

Oh, and something about Hayley Mills, I've always thought that Doris and Hayley should have been in a movie together, playing Mother and Daughter! Can you imagine these two together?!

Veronica Lake was born in 1922. I read the book she wrote.
She died at only 50 years old! :(
She was very short, 4 feet 11!
Interesting woman.
Here is a link about her.

I wish you wouldn't get so upset! There are more serious things going on in this world than when a movie star was born, and their height! This suppose to be all in fun!

I know this isn't my section to moderate, but I'm going to butt in anyway.

Could you two ladies please quit arguing with each other. If you can't stop, please just PM each other instead of posting it out here on the board.

I simply was sharing my information about Veronica Lake about the correct year she was born. I wouldn't call that arguing on my part Megan! Samantha freaked out as usual when she was corrected on an human error!

Veronica Lake is number one in my book too!
I'm a middle aged woman that watched Veronica Lake since I was 15.
I read her book after she died. The book got ruined in a flood. I lost many great books! :(
I loved Veronica's book, and was lucky enough to find it again on Ebay! :D

I probably shouldn't do this, but oh well.

Vernonica Lake's birth name was Constance Ockelman. According to the 1930 United States Census, Constance Ockelman, daughter of Harry W. was listed as seven years old when the census was taken on April 8th, 1930. She would have turned 8 years old later that year in November. Therefore, she was born in 1922.

This is the same United States Census that lists, on April 10, 1930, Doris Kappelhoff as being 7 years old.

I've looked up quite a few stars in the various census records. It's great actually finding a famous person.
