Last night Barbra Streisand performed in NYC at the Village Vanguard.
The lucky 74 fans who won her contest and a few celebrities attended the show.

Here is all the news from the NY Times. :D

I found this funny song that she sang after she left Vanguard.

Doris knew when to call it a Day. Barbra Streisand and Barbra Walters will never call it quits it seems. And Ms Walters is 80 yesterday!!!!

Why should she call it a day? She still enjoys making music and sounds great. Barbara Walters still produces amazing interviews. So, I don't see why they should stop just because they are getting older. Unless, they want to do other things like Doris did. There is nothing wrong with that either.

True, Streisand's voice is still going strong. Saw her live in 2006. Incredible. She's far from having to call it quits. And she's only 3 years older than Doris was when she did Best Friends.

Would have loved to have been at the Vanguard, but I'm fairly certain it will be released on DVD eventually. Plus the new album comes out Tuesday. And it has the largest advance sales in Sony's history. Not bad for a 67 year old, who's been in the game for 5 decades now. 8)

Dominique, Barbra also sang that song ("Value") at her Central Park concert in 1967. It was a semi-standard of hers in the 60's.

I guess I am one of the weird ones...I cannot stand Barbra. I think she is way to impressed with herself so there is no need for me to be impressed with her.
Besides..she can't hold a tea light to Doris.

Mike~

I completely agree. I cannot stand to listen to 6 notes from Barbra. But I enjoy a nuanced singer like Doris not that over-the-top, hyperextended vocal cords, shouting from the likes of Barbra and Judy Garland, etc. But....as they say....different strokes for different folks.

I do think Barbra is good in comedy but as an overall performer - singing, dancing, drama, comedy - Doris is the best!!!!

One other thing I take issue with Ray's statement, is that I don't think Doris knew when to quit. I think she quit too early. She defintely had more albums in her had she gone to a more mature, talent-friendly label, like Reprise (Sinatra's) or Pablo (Ella's). I respect her choice, but I don't agree with it.

Did anyone see Barbara on BBC interview with Jonathan Ross?

I am not a big fan, but I have to say she looked amazing and sounded great too - a wonderful interview and she came across as quite a down to earth and reasonable lady, very good interview, I thought.
