I saw a report this morning from the L.A. Daily News about the number of cats and dogs put down in the city shelters in Los Angeles during the past fiscal year, which ended June 30. The number was 12,680 -- down from a 1971 high of 111,000. Doris and her colleagues at Actors & Others for Animals were so instrumental in beginning the public awareness of this horrible situation at that time. They really deserve a lot of credit for their long and effective efforts to reduce the kill numbers.
Nice to hear, and I agree with Howard, hopefully zero. Way to go Doris and Actors for Others and Animals and the other organizations. Still the number that are put down is sadly staggering.
