Polly said she had made up her mind not to like the big star DD- however, she was wrong and like us all, fell hook line and sinker for a wonderful warm immensely talented down to earth superstar.

DD's and Etting's lives had several things in common: Both of German ancestry; both blue-eyed blondes from the Midwestern U.S. (Etting from Nebraska); each had an absentee father; both sang in nightclubs in their early careers; each had a very controlling husband; both had recording contracts with Columbia; each hosted her own radio program; and both received stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame (Etting has one, DD two).

On September 25-1987, actress Mary Astor died at age 81. Two of her most famous roles are wicked Brigid O'Shaughnessy in The Maltese Falcon with Humphrey Bogart and as Sandra Kovak in The Great Lie with Bette Davis.
Mary Astor won the Best Supporting Actress award in 1941 for The Great Lie.

On September 26-1984, actor Walter Pidgeon died in 1984 at age 87. He starred in the wartime drama Mrs. Miniver with Greer Garson.

On September 26- 2008, Paul Newman died at age 83. He won the best actor Academy Award for his performance in The Colour of Money in 1986. He starred in Cat On A Hot Tin Roof, Hud, Cool Hand Luke and Butch Cassidy and The Sundance Kid.

On September 26- 2010, actress Gloria Stuart who starred in Titanic died at age 100

On September 29-1970, veteran character actor Edward Everett Horton died at age 84. He starred in Top Hat, Arsenic and Old Lace, It's A Mad, Mad, Mad World, and Pocketful of Miracles.


On September 29-2010, Tony Curtis died at age 85. He starred in The Defiant Ones, Some Like It Hot, Spartacus , The Boston Strangler and The Mirror Crack'd.

Tony Curtis became an artist in the 1980's and his impressionist paintings sell for $25,000. Some of his works are exhibited in a gallery in Carmel California.

Tony and his last wife Jill did a lot of work to help save horses from being sent to slaughter houses.

He was nominated for an Academy Award in 1956 for his role in Giant.
He will be forever remembered for his charismatic romantic pairing with Doris Day in Pillow Talk, Lover Come Back and Send Me No Flowers.

How fortunate we are to have this beautiful Rock and Doris banner on this day.

On October 5- 1981, actress Gloria Grahame died at age 55. She won the 1952 best supporting actress Academy Award for her role in The Bad and The Beautiful. She also was nominated for her role in Crossfire. She starred in Sudden Fear, The Greatest Show on Earth and Oklahoma.

On October 26-1952, actress Hattie McDaniel died at age 57. She was the first African American actress to win the best supporting actress Academy Award for her role as Mammy in Gone With The Wind in 1939
She was also the first black woman to sing on the radio in the United States. She starred in China Seas with Jean Harlow, I'm No Angel with Me West, and The Little Colonel with Shirley Temple and approximately 150 other films.

Terry was Doris Day's son whose father was Doris' first husband Al Jordan. Terry was adopted by Doris' third husband Martin Melcher.
Terry was a music producer and produced the song Move Over Darling.

Wow, that was a long time ago, Johnny.

And although Marty adopted him, which he didn't really need to do, it sounds like he didn't really love him, as we understand 'the concept' today.
