Hi Bryan,

The last five photo's are probably Dutch postcards. There are few hunderd different photo's of Doris printed on those cards in the 50's and early 60's. Doris was very popular in The Netherlands then. These cards are still very collectable and some are very hard to find and very expensive. In euro's the black and white cards are around 8 euro, normal collored photo's around 6 euro. But sepia color cards are around 12,50 or even higher. I'm a collector of those cards and I have around 350 now. There are a lot unused cards around and they are the prettiest and rarest.

Wow, Peter...My DD scrapbooks are full of those cards that were signed by Doris. I must have written her ALOT when I was in junior and senior high school, and 9 out of 10 of her replies were those cards, along with the occasional letter, note, and the 8x10 signed photos.

Re- the big photo above- circa 1956 with Doris spraying perfume - knowing Doris is a lady who is frugal & looks after things - I wonder if those button ear rings are the butter cup coloured ones Doris wore for the 1987 pic taken by Terry O'Neill - in the cream jacket ?

That could be. Have you noticed that throughout her movies and tv shows and even publicity photos that Doris uses a lot of her own jewelry? Rings, brooches, earrings and bracelets? She has a black enamel frog with jewels in it. (Worn with the red long dress during the party scene in With Six You Get Eggroll). A daisy pin, whose center is a cluster of diamonds. A large cocktail ring that shows up in Lover come back, do not disturb and makes severla appearances in her series. She has a very preppy all american sensibility. She is not a spendthrift so I makes sense that she would hang on to stuff. Audrey Hepburn was the same in that respect.

I wonder if the jewlery that she wore in the movies were peices that she liked so much that marty bought them for her ? Or maybe even made deals for them as a part of the production cost ? Either way they are really lovely .

Thanks Suzie. That's my good friend, Tracy, (in my pics) from the US, who decided she preferred life in London and has been living here for quite a few years now.

That totally just reminded me of something! So I took this career test thing today in school. It said I should be a pastor, a teacher, or an actress!!! Which are all possibilities I've been considering! I was especially happy about the acting one though!

Thank you, everyone for the great photos, I adore them. It seems to me that Doris and Marty always seemed to enjoy each others company ,as most of the photos of them ,wheather posed for or candid, they always had a smile for one another . The photo of Doris sitting on the arm of martys chair looking deep into his smile tells of their mutual admiration of one another. Ross Hunter always said that they loved and admirerd each other. Their marriage was not perfect, but nobody has a perfect marriage .

Bry, Cute picture of Tracy. I guess that its every americans dream to move to London for a time and every Londoners dream to move to America for a time lol. (The grass is greener right ? )

I think your comments are spot on, Suzie, regardless of all that happened they had a strong bond and I think that Doris came to terms with everything in the end. It's easy to overlook that Marty produced many of Doris' great films, which she may not have made otherwise, as indicated by the fact that she gave it all up as soon as he died. He may not have always chosen the right project, but that is true of all the stars.
