Helen Gadsby, the girl she was with, said it was made on Nov 3rd the year 2000. We are Facebook friends.
A friend of hers that she worked for, at her cafe, said Doris came into her place to eat sometimes, and she arranged for Helen to have Lunch with Doris. Helen said she was so sweet, and even made this picture with her. She told Helen, "Don't look directly into the camera, that's the way we do it in the movies" and she giggled.

Love this candid of Doris with Martha Raye and the great Roger Edens rehearsing the song (I presume) "Why Can't I??"

Like Irene Dunne done.

Nice photo, Howard. Thanks! I love the final result of that rehearsal.

Some trivia: I believe Roger Edens was the associate producer on "Jumbo." He didn't get an Oscar nomination for his work on that picture . . . however, George Stoll, the music director, did. Both were certainly talented people who had previously collaborated on scoring movie music and, in fact, were nominated in that category for 3 films in the early 1940s ("Babes in Arms," "Strike Up the Band," and "Me and My Gal").

Great picture find Howard, thanks for sharing.

I agree, what a performance both Doris and Martha Raye gave with this song- just wonderful.

It was my favorite number in the film. I thought it had a wonderful dreamy quality about it.
Like Irene Dunne done.

I think mine too Howard- Think Doris really pushed herself on this, what wonderful harmony and notes she reached.
