Peter, these photos give us a range of Doris' interesting, thoughtful facial expressions. Thank you.

The pain on Doris' face in The Man Who Knew Too much photo is so moving and powerful. The serious, focused attention of Doris talking with Hitchcock is apparent in the second photo. It is regrettable that Doris was not given the recognition of a Academy Award nomination. She deserved to win for her intense and superior performance.

Ingrid Bergman won in 1956 for Anastasia. The other nominees were, Carrol Baker for Baby Doll, Katharine Hepburn for The Rainmaker, Nancy Kelly for The Bad Seed and Deborah Kerr for The King and I. Doris performance in The Man Who Knew Too Much is far more memorable than some of these other performances.

The last two photos give us Doris' warm radiance that we all know and love.

Peter, I really love the If You Will Marry Me sheet music photo. It has a faded memory look.

Looking at the Move Over Darling poster photo always makes me want to laugh. It is such a feel-good film.

Thank you.

Great pictures Peter!

Doris and Ginger look like sisters in Storm Warning. I love the Doris-Rock Laurel Award photos before. They are new to me.

Thank you.

More great pics- thanks.

Currently reading Ginger's autobiography and enjoying it the more I have got into it - she [Ginger] certainly holds back a lot more than Doris about certain things [in their respective books] though she is very complimentary about Doris.

Ginger uses her book much more than Doris to promote Christian Science, and absolutely refuses to discuss in any detail romantic trysts - however, she gives great account of the Hollywood of the Golden era, her films, and her costumes, which were a big thing for her- she could fight too when necessary for what she believed in.

Jas, it's been a long time since I read Ginger's book, but I seem to recall thinking that she and Doris were very alike in a number of ways besides their appearances and Christian Science beliefs. What comes to mind at the moment is that they both loved to laugh, they were highly disciplined entertainers, they had a really close relationship with their mothers, and they enjoyed nature. I love what someone (maybe a critic?) said about Ginger -- that she could do everything Astaire did, except she did it "backwards and in high heels."

Musiclover- you are right - I think they were quite alike - and looked alike too.

I wonder if Doris' zeal for Christian Science - at the time- was increased due to Ginger being a CS - and Ginger being her idol?

Yes, Ginger's humour comes across, she seemed to like to play pranks and have fun, she was also [like Doris] quite sporty for the time [tennis, swimming] etc.

I watched on youtube last night a few episodes of a UK television programme about RKO - one devoted to Fred and Ginger, one titled "a woman's lot" where Ginger, Katherine Hepburn and Lucille Ball were interviewed [early 1980s] - this is the only interview [in my opinion] where I saw a steely side to Ginger- as we have said before - no one that gets to these heights is Pollyanna, - I am not saying this in a critical way - it makes Ginger and Doris [to me] more human and is a good thing- to show some human flaws.

So many rare and wonderful photos from Peter and others.

Thank you so much for sharing them.

I am particularly fond of the two with Rock Hudson at the 1959 Laurel Awards. That was a golden time.

The photos of Doris on a date with Mike North are wonderful. I love Doris' playful look. She is gorgeous in the striped jacket. I have never seen these pictures before.
All the pictures are day brighteners.

Thank you Peter!

Peter, I think Doris looks so contemporary in the first photo. I think the enlargement of the photo is perfect for a banner. Only the phone dates the photo.

In the second photo Doris could be confused with Lana Turner who was labeled as the "sweater girl" in the 1940's.

Melancholy -Doris looks terrific in her bikini. It is a great photo.

Thank you.
