2020 Doris Day photos
Re: 2020 Doris Day photos
You're right Howard.
In Paula Yates book 'Blondes' Doris gets her own chapter and Paula correctly notes the style icon status of Doris and the fact she had it written into her contract from Pillow Talk onwards, to keep the clothes- this was some deal!
Other stars did not have this provision big as they were- have heard Ginger Rogers interviewed in the 80s talking about her iconic clothes and the fact people assumed she had them or kept them - they were owned by the studio. Even Joan Crawford in her 1970s book My Way of Life - laments she wished she has some of Adrian's designs in the 70s as his classics were coming back into vogue.

Re: 2020 Doris Day photos
Thanks Jas for the interesting information about Paula Yates book Blondes.
I wonder what happened to Doris’ classic white gown from Midnight Lace and the stunning orange gown from Do Not Disturb. There is also the white gown she wore in The Thrill of It All when she went to the dinner.
Does anyone know what happened to all these these clothes from Doris’ movies?
It would be interesting to know what happened with the beguiling Love Me or Leave costumes.
I know Debbie Reynold lead an effort to collect costumes from all movies to open a Hollywood costume museum. I can’t recall what happened with this effort.

Re: 2020 Doris Day photos
The costumes Debbie Reynolds collected over 4+ decades were auctioned in 3 separate events beginning in 2011 by Profiles in History, a California auction house. The total from the first 2 auctions was $25 million. A video of Debbie speaking at one of the auctions can be found on her website (Debbiereynolds.com/hollywood-collection-auction).
Re: 2020 Doris Day photos
Johnny -
I think that for a time, while Doris got to keep the clothes, by the end of the film she was tired looking at them - this is depicted in Kauffman's book - when Doris' Secretary at the time recalled when Touch of Mink finished filming- she was greeted by Doris with the whole wardrobe from the film - giving it to her (the secretary) to wear.
From what was on display, it seems Doris kept more clothes from later on in her film career- notably, the last 2 films where she loved the work of Glen Connolly -(a female) designer. She also seemed to keep a lot of the clothes from the television show- that interested me.
It is a pity she didn't keep or think to keep the iconic Jean Louis and Irene gowns.

A fan just acquired the orange gown from Do Not Disturb and a posted a photo of it on Facebook. Sadly, the gown has a huge stain in the middle of it and I'm not sure it can be repaired.
This is an interesting story about Doris memorabilia. As I understand it, another fan and avid collector passed away and donated her Doris Day items to a nearby university In Arkansas. Apparently, the university decided they no longer wanted to keep the items and decided to give them away. The fan who posted the photos got in touch with them and drove to Arkansas to collect them. She posted one photo of Doris collectibles that filled an entire room of her home.
I find the story behind this fascinating and wonder where some of the items will end up.
Two of the gowns from Love Me Or Leave Me belong to a fan who lives in NYC. David Kauffman introduced me to him in 2010 and we went to the guy's apartment to see them. He had the black dress she wore in the fight scene with Cagney and the sequined gown she wore when she sang Mean To Me. He also owned the pink dress she wore in The Most Beautiful Girl In The World sequence from Jumbo!

Re: 2020 Doris Day photos
Thank you so much Michael for this really interesting update on Doris' costumes. I would like to think they all found good caring homes.
It would have been lovely to see all the costumes and Doris historical memorabilia treasures in a museum in Cincinnati Ohio. There are several museums dedicated to honouring stars of film and music that include Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Charlie Chaplin, Ava Gardner, Elvis Presley, Clark Gable and Rosemary Clooney.
Fortunately there are many Doris Day enthusiasts and perhaps some in Ohio. One day there may be a museum to honour an American artist and treasure that is Doris Day.

Hope you are all still doing well. Strange times... Here in my home town people are more and more taking risks by going out in bigger groups. I hope things will change soon, but my feeling is otherwise.

Re: 2020 Doris Day photos
These are amazing photos of Doris. Most of the are new to me. I will have to take another look at season 5 of The Doris Day Show.
The photos of Doris and Carmen sitting together are sweet. Doris is holding Carmen's hand.
The photos of Doris in the wedding gown are really interesting. It looks so different from Doris' simple classic personal taste.
Doris is a knockout in the two piece swimsuit in the last photo. Doris would have been about age 51 at this time.
Thank you so much Peter.
Be well and take good care.

More terrific finds from the wizard of rare photos. Thank you, Peter. You never cease to amaze me.
Interesting to see the on set photos from The Doris Day Show. Barbara Lampson and Connie Edney remained close to Doris for many years and they were loyal friends to her. That says so much.

Doris was so sexy in GBB as a spy.

The 1949 photo of Doris in My Dream is Yours is new to me as well as the 1953 photo of Doris
sitting in bed yawning. I am wondering if the 53 photo is from Calamity Jane or while Doris was filming Young At Heart.
The Midnight Lace photo of Doris holding the phone with the expression of terror on her face is iconic.
These are sweet surprises. Thank you Peter.

Re: 2020 Doris Day photos
I am really enjoying these Doris photos you posted today Peter. The Blue Band margarine photos and the Carmel photos of Doris and Buster are new to me.
I checked out Blue Band margarine and found out it is still being sold today in 65 countiries under several different names. Among the names are; Bonella, Country Crock, Imperial, (sold in Canada), Rama, Stork and Vitam.
The photo of Rock and Doris always raised my spirits. They look genuinely radiant together.
Thank you Peter.

More wonderful photos from the incredible Peter.
Nice to see the margarine commercial photos. They are very rare.
The Doris Day Show photos are gorgeous. Love her in that outfit. No one wore headbands and knee socks better than Doris Day. She looks so vibrant.
The BW portraits from Midnight Lace are impressive too. No retouching either and she looks amazing.
Thank you Peter for gracing the forum with your amazing finds.
