Pillow Talk certainly made show biz history!!! Made Doris and Rock Superstars and still delights today! But has anyone ever known anyone named Rock? Only in 1959 Hollywood could make all this work as a classic comedy for fifty years! As they wrote in reel life Doris and Rock were the perfect handsome couple, but in real life both were far different than their images. So that makes them top notch Actors that made us believe in their performance.

Good point, Ray, never met or heard of another Rock. Following up on Michele's commment:

ON THIS DAY IN MOVIES: PILLOW TALK

On this day in 1959, (Oct 6) UNIVERSAL PICTURES released PILLOW TALK and an iconic romantic comedy couple was born. With this film, DORIS DAY and ROCK HUDSON became the symbols of the perfect romantic American couple…never mind that, in real life, she ended up with several husbands and he was a closeted gay. All that said, PILLOW TALK remains a delightful product of its time and featured a great cast that included: TONY RANDALL, THELMA RITTER, NICK ADAMS, ALLEN JENKINS and LEE PATRICK.

More (Including comments from a certain Mary Anne Barothy. ):

Have been incredibly busy early January, but all that has subsided a bit so on Saturday morning, I got back into bed with a coffee, Rock and Doris, oh, and one of my all time favourites, bliss!

Wow I am so glad I found this! I know this may be a bit of a random question but it has been bugging me for quite sometime, towards the end of Pillow Talk when Rock goes to her apartment and lifts her out of bed with her covers and takes her back to his apartment . . . what is the wire hanging out of the covers? is it an electric blanket? If anyone knows the answer I would love to hear it. Thanks! :)

Apparently Rock had a bad back and they constructed a harness - hidden under the clothes - that allowed him to 'carry' Doris without putting a strain on his back. That could have been it.

The wire was from an electric blanket. While filming the sequence a cat started following and playing with the dangling wire. The production crew hoped the cat would stay and continue until the shot was completed, which is what happened. The script was then modified to include the cat walking into the "redecorated' apartment and getting the scare of its life!

Rock Hudson tells a funny story about this scene in "Doris Day - Her Own Story". He says that he had trouble carrying Doris around for as long and as far as required, hence the special shelf. Then he goes on:
I could have managed if only one take had been involved, but we went on endlessly, primarily because there was a bit actor who played a cop on the street, and as we passed him Doris's line was "Officer, arrest this man," and the cop was supposed to say to me, "How you doing, Brad?" but that stupid actor kept calling me Rock. So back to our marks we went for another take and another and another. I'll bet we did that scene twenty times. That's why the shelf for Doris to sit on.
Would you please get off this line!
