How many of Doris' film co-stars are still alive?

Unread post by webmaster »

With news of the death of Dom Deluise, I was wondering how many of Doris' co-stars - or any actors in her film career - are still alive?

I can think of:

James Garner
Louis Jourdan
Robert Morse (Mad Men)
Polly Bergen (Desperate Housewives)
Rod Taylor
Peter Graves
Edie Adams
George Kennedy,
Allyn Ann McLerie
Billy Gray (http://www.billygray.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;)

Can anyone add to the list?

I hate to sound like my sister (I'll explain later) but didn't Edie Adams pass away last year?

Small aside - about my sister - We were in line waiting for the doors to open for Guys & Dolls last month. This older, very well dressed, woman walked past me and I said "That's Ruta Lee" to which my sister replied, "No it isn't, she dead." Well, it was Ruta Lee, she ended up sitting right in front of us and we had a lovely conversation at the intermission. Very personable lady. :D

Yes, you are right - Edie Adams (April 16, 1927 – October 15, 2008) - I thought she was still alive.

I suppose it's not uncommon for people to assume that actors who haven't made films for many years have passed away. Doris still has a lot of 'contemporaries' around though, Elizabeth Taylor, Debbie Reynolds, Kim Novak, Tony Curtis, Eva Marie Saint, Mitzi Gaynor... can you think of any more?

Jane Russell, Maureen O'Hara, Jane Powell, and Tippi Hedren are the ones that come quickly to mind.

:D Alive

As a contempory, Jean Simmons.
I've recently really discovered what a talented actress she is. The Big Country was great and I cannot fathom why she did not get an Oscar nomination for Elmer Gantry. The Grass is Greener is another good vehicle with an outstanding cast (Grant/Kerr/Simmons/Mitchum)

Sadly, Philip Carey is now gone, too. (So I just edited the above list.)

As another contemporary, Mickey Rooney is still alive and kicking.

Shirley Temple Black is still alive, and turned 81 in April. Of course she wasn't in a Doris Day movie, but I like it when people include any classic actor/actress.

This is kind of a random co-star, but Sergio Fantoni, who played Paul in Do Not Disturb is apparently still alive, LOL.

Shirley Jones, still going strong

The star of stage and screens big and small shows she's still not afraid of the dark side. May 13, 2009
Shirley Jones does wholesome as well as anybody in the business (with the possible exception of Doris Day). She played the loving mom Shirley Partridge in the 1970-74 musical sitcom "The Partridge Family" and the lovable girl next door in such movie musicals as "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel."

Great that she is still working at 75. I think that if you have a creative interest there is no reason why you shouldn't continue as long as you want to and are in good health. I hope I'm still able to do photography and websites when I'm in my 70s.

Rod Taylor is still working, playing a small part in the upcoming film "Inglourious Basterds".
"Rod Taylor plays Winston Churchill in this WWII film scheduled to be released Aug. 21, 2009. Rod's role is a "cameo," but it's a cool tribute for him to be chosen. The film is written and directed by renowned Rod Taylor enthusiast Quentin Tarantino. Rod filmed his part in the fall of 2008 in Berlin. Brad Pitt headlines the ensemble cast."

I love Shirley Jones!!! She is one of my favorites. :D It's great that she's still working.
Her husband, Marty Ingels, is really bizarre though. A while ago he shoplifted a $500 hat from some store. And currently is is urging her to do playboy at 75. Oh well, she has more sense than to do that anyways.

Betty White was presented with the SAG (Screen Actor's Guild) Lifetime Achievement Award last night. The show was televised, and they showed highlight clips from Ms White's career. They Included a few seconds of our gal on BW's Pet series from back in the 70s. Made me smile!

That's a nice pic of Kird & Anne Douglas. I really admire him, especially how he fought back to health after his stroke.
