The Best of Doris Day - 1997 Compilation

Unread post by Johnny »

In a second-hand shop I came across The Best of Doris Day 1997 compilation cd. It is a U.K. edition by Delta Music Ltd, Beckenham, Kent.
The liner notes by Neil Kellas states that if the 22 songs listed include Doris' favorites such as
'S Wonderful, Blue Skies, Stardust and Sentimental Journey.
Other classic songs included are:
September In The Rain
You Brought A New Kind of Love To Me
I've Gotta Sing Away These Blues
I Can't Give You Anything But Love
My Blue Heaven
I Could Write A Book
A Hundred Years From Today
I'm A Big Girl Now
You Outta Be In Pictures
I'm In The Mood For Love
Be Anything, But Be Mine
I Got It Bad (And That Ain't Good)
Light Your Lamp
Singin' In The Rain
Just You, Just Me
Don't Worry 'Bout Me
Crying My Heart Out For You

This album is a delightful collection of songs that take the listener into a state of wistfulness and elicit musical memories. No one could or does sing these songs better than Doris Day.

Hi Johnny,

The collection your mentioning are all songs from the 1952/1953 Radio Transcription discs. Doris recorded them for use on radio, mostly on The Doris Day Radio show. These are recorded with: Van Alexander or The Page Cavanaugh Trio.

I'd like to add:
* Slowpoke
* Sweet Evening Breeze
* What'll I Doodle Oodle Oo
* Till I Waltz Again With You
* What Every Girl Should Know
* I've Got A Feeling You're Fooling
* Because You're Mine
* Please Mister Sun
* Love To Be With You
* Everything I Have Is Yours
* When I'm Happy
* Coffee, Cigarettes And Memories

Are also songs from these sessions.

Johnny, that's a really good compilation. Doris's rendition of Don't Worry 'Bout Me is one of the best I've ever heard. And it's good to have that addendum, Peter. I love When I'm Happy, but have never been able to find who wrote it. Do you know?
