Great banner photo Bryan - colorful and with a message....put this one along with one of her with a rifle from 'The Battle of Josie' and it would be a great banner for the NRA. Thanks for the GREAT work you do for us.

Sounds like you're more Calamity Jane than The Singing Nun (pistol-packing wise), Mary Anne, so this one is for you.

I appreciate that it's part of the culture and US constitution and that probably 99% or more of Americans don't abuse gun ownership. But can anyone carry a gun? Can you be armed in the big cities like New York?

We don't even have armed police (for normal policing) in the UK and I hate to think of anyone over 18 being able to buy a deadly weapon, we have enough problems with knife crime in London.

We've seen this image before but I came across a nice clear version. However, I'm not sure the caption below is correct? It looks earlier than 1951, and didn't she stay blonde after her first film for Warners?

Doris Day looks beautiful, sleek and timeless in this banner.
Doris' eyes appear to look brown and I find this distracting.
This photo appears to be from The Pajama Game period.
Thank you Bryan.

Thanks, guys. :)

I didn't notice that her eyes weren't blue, Johnny, I checked the original and I haven't changed them.

It's so hot in London, and the UK, and it's expected to be more than 35 degrees c tomorrow. We're really not used to such high temperatures over here!

I love this new Doris banner. The black and white light and shadows give the photo so many dimensions. This photo is new to me.
Is it from The Glass Bottom Boat?
Really beautiful.

Wow, that's hot, Howard.

Johnny, the caption said, "Doris Day enjoys the pool at the Desert Inn, Palm Springs". It doesn't say which year but If you search for 'Desert Inn, Palm Springs, Doris Day' you'll get lots of results, including:

"In 1968, Doris Day rented a house at Canyon Country Club, where she was cured of depression following the death of her husband and manager Marty Melcher. “When I first arrived in Palm Springs, I was a vegetable,” Day confessed. “At the end of a month, I was swimming 20 laps and taking long, vigorous walks.”

I think she'd been there before with Marty and it's a popular hang out for movie stars but it's not clear when the photo was taken. Could it have been 1968?

I'd say that pic [swimming] is much earlier than 1968 - by then DD was wearing bikinis - that costume is much older vintage.

Thanks Bryan!

I think the geraniums in my cranium interfered with my vision. Looking at the banner again, I can see the banner is not from a Doris film.

It is a truly beautiful banner.

Shortly after Marty died, Terry and Candy Bergren drove Doris to Palm Springs to recoup. We were down there at the time and saw Terry and Candy on a tandem bike with Doris sitting in the back part while the Terry and Candy did the cycling...it was a good time for Doris to get herself together as she would starting to film the first year of the DORIS DAY SHOW at CBS...the good old days. On our way home, we happened to end up driving right next to ELVIS - with the traffic so slow due to rush hour back to LA, we pulled up next to him - Elvis was sitting in the front passenger seat - he rolled down the window and chatted with us for most of the two hour ride back to LA - talk about a memorable weekend! Those were THE DAYS!!!

Thanks Mary Anne for a really great story.

It came to mind that Doris sang Can't Help Falling In Love on her Love Him album and Are You Lonesome Tonight? on The Love Album and Elvis had recorded these songs as well.

I wonder if they discussed music. It would have been a thrill if they had recorded a ballad together.
