Thanks for posting the photo, Bryan. I couldn't get the link to work, though, so here's the text of the May 17 story:
"A life-size sculpture of Doris Day in her Calamity Jane role is on display at Devendorf Park for the Carmel Art in the Park event. Local artist Steven Whyte sculpted the piece for the 2017 event in honor of his mother's favorite movie. "We got a positive but humble response from her that she was flattered and honored, so that was nice," said Whyte about Day's response to his work.
Whyte brought the clay piece back again this year in honor of the legendary actress's death on Monday. Day passed away at her home in Carmel Valley after a bad bout with pneumonia. She was 97 years old.
The Calamity Jane sculpture was made as a spec piece. It has yet to sell. If it does, Doris Day will be cast in bronze for her buyer; if it doesn't, she'll be turned back into balls of clay. Whyte was in talks with a prospective buyer who saw [the sculpture of] Day at Carmel Art in the Park on Friday. He said his life-size bronze works usually sell for around $75,000, but because Day is already sculpted [in clay], he may be willing to sell her for around $50,000."
Wouldn't Doris be amazed?!!

Re: Doris Day has died
Thanks for that story, Judy. It would be great if her estate could buy it, or the town, and put it on display somewhere in memory of her, wouldn't it? Keep us posted on what happens to it.

Re: Doris Day has died
Just read this short piece in this week's Carmel Pine Cone. I wonder what they are planning?
Panetta pays tribute to Day
PINE CONE STAFF REPORT
PAYING TRIBUTE to one of Monterey County’s — and
the world’s — favorite entertainers, Congressman Jimmy Panetta
introduced legislation May 30 to honor singer and actress
Doris Day, who died in Carmel Valley May 13 at 97.
The legislation is co-sponsored by Congressman Don Bacon,
a Republican from Nebraska.
Panetta said Day left behind an impressive legacy.
“Doris Day’s joyful spirit and love of animals will be
missed by her neighbors on the central coast of California,”
the local congressman said. “As we reflect on all the incredible
things that she accomplished for our community, we also
recognize her important contributions to our culture.”
Bacon said animal welfare groups in his district have benefited
from grants made by the Doris Day Animal Foundation.

Re: Doris Day has died
I hope one day there is a sculpture in Carmel of Doris surrounded by dogs, cats and other animals she loved.
This art piece would capture the true spirit if Doris.

Re: Doris Day has died
A Collector's Edition (Celebrating An American Legend) has just hit the news stands. The magazine is comprised of 97 pages, and was published by American Media Specials and costs a hefty $14.00. The publication contains 14 segments and covers every aspect of Miss Day's life on and off screen, music and television studios, and her animal activism. There are many photos, some of which are quite rare. It is a worthwhile treasure to keep forever. Texas Gonzalo

I bought the Doris Day Collector's Edition - Celebrating An American Legend last week. In Canada, the cost is $15.99.
I agree Texas that this publication is a beautiful edition with rare photos. It is a true treasure.
