Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
Just discovered this recent YouTube video of Les Brown, Jr. talking about Doris during the big band days, and even more interesting, he's working on a new DD project. Here's the link:

Hi Howard,
Thank you for sharing. Hope to hear some of the songs soon. What a great way to make Doris music available to an new generation. It's also a tribute to Page Cavanaugh and his trio.
If anyone finds more information, please share.

Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
Thank you Howard for posting the great find of the Les Brown Jr. interview. Everyone should listen to the interview and be thrilled with the anticipated release of the Hindsight Records CD. What we learn from the interview is the existence of previously unreleased Doris Day songs from 1952 with the Page Cavanaugh Trio. What I gleaned from the interview is that there are 15 tracks, including "Embraceable You" and "I Could Write A Book." Les Brown Jr. offered insights into Miss Day's association with Les Brown. Can you believe that Doris was a champion poker player when traveling with the Les Brown Band musicians? Also because of Doris, Bob Hope hired Les Brown and His Orchestra to play for his radio shows and world wide tours. That association lasted for 52 years, while Doris was with Bob Hope for 1 year. The superlatives Les Brown Jr. used to describe the Doris Day recordings used such words as incredible, perfection, and great energy. This posting and the ones that will surely follow show the need for this wonderful FORUM to continue and grow. Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo

Thank you so much Howard and Peter!
It is exciting to know that the Doris With Love album will be released October 25th.
I think over time new unreleased music from Doris will be discovered. I believe there will be new Doris music treasures coming our way.

So glad that "I've Got a Feelin' You're Foolin'" and "Slowpoke" are included on this release. Although Doris said the up-tempo numbers weren't always her favorites, nobody sang them better.

Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
Forgot to mention that "Slowpoke" was written by Chilton Price (although not fully credited to her), who also wrote "Never Look Back," which Doris sang in "Love Me or Leave Me."
Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
According to an article on the web today, the record will be released on Nov. 29, along with a digital single recording of "I'm in the Mood for Love", from the album. Let's hope both will be gigantic hits.
It is being released by Hindsight Records, but currently, that website is down, and I can find no reference yet on amazon.

Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
I do not wish to rain on our parade, but most of the tracks included in this new project were released earlier by Hindsight Records. I hope the tracks described for this CD are different, but I doubt it. Hindsight Records in 1986 released a CD which contains 10 of the tracks now described for the new project. The release was entitled The Uncollected Volume 2 1952-53 Doris Day with the Page Cavanaugh Trio (HSR-226). Then in 1995 Hindsight released HCD-226 which added "Slow Poke" and "Please Mr. Sun." The tracks "Till I Waltz Again WIth You," "What'll I Doodle-oodle-oo" and "Setimental Journey" possibly came from the Hindsight Records vaults. I hope these are new tracks, but I did not want us to be disappointed in case they are not. Happy Days, Texas Gonzalo
Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
Texas you are right, however, my understanding is that the tracks have been re-mastered and set to a full orchestra.
Doris' voice on these is perfection.

There are some short music tracks to listen too on this site.
The album is on Spotify too.
I like it a lot. Not a favorite at the moment. Like a lot!!!

Now available on Amazon; just bought a copy (even though I have all the originals in other collections). I understand that this new cd has been modified with the orchestra of Les Brown, Jr. I will let you know.

Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
In full recognition that these songs have been previously available in other collections - boy did Les Brown Jr. do the magnificent voice of Doris Day proud in his remix.
I downloaded digital files from Amazon instead of waiting for a CD - and I've been happy all day.
The one downside I find is that the orchestral arrangements push the Page Cavanaugh trio further back into the mix - so if you prefer just Ms. Day and the piano - you may not like this new release.
But, if you love hearing Ms. Day's voice at it's most lush - this is wonderful music.

Doc you make a good point, while i am thrilled at the release, I love Doris with the trio and on the l ittle of the new album that I have heard, I think i prefer Doris in the more simple setting with the fab P C Trio. Still a wonderful job though and that voice!

Does anyone know how to get in touch with Les Brown, Jr?

Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
The Doris Day With Love with new orchestration is a heavenly delight from beginning to end.
The first track is I’m In The Mood For Love that creates a beautiful romantic mood.
There is a ethereal feeling listening to these songs. A big surprise for me was Doris singing Till I Waltz Again With You which was one of my mother’s favourite songs. Stardust and Embraceable You are glorious. September In The Rain is absolutely perfect. The last track is Sentimental Journey which is most fitting for today.
I bought two copies and plan to give one as a gift to another Doris Day fan. I would highly recommend this album to anyone who wants a slice of heaven.

Re: Les Brown, Jr. on Doris Day and a new recording!
Happy New Year to DD's cadre of devoted fans!
Howard, I don't have any direct contact info for Les Brown, Jr., but you could try calling Joel Guldin. He is the founder and organizer of an annual festival held in Pennsylvania to showcase the music of the Brown band. The festival's website shows a phone number of 717-228-8513. Since the Brown family is very supportive of this event, I think Mr. Guldin might be able to put you in touch with Les, Jr. Good luck!
