Hi Bryan and everyone,

I couldn't let the day go by without wishing you all a very happy, healthy and successful New Year.

It's been some time since I posted here, but I have been 'dropping by' from time to time to read the comments and look at the beautiful banners (Ania, I particularly like your Christmas 'Happy Holidays' banner with the hearts and red roses :D ).

2019 was a year of mixed emotions for me. It started on a high with my visit to Carmel for the Birthday Weekend celebrations, and the opportunity to wave to Doris and sing Happy Birthday from the Quail Lodge Golf Course down below her house. Not so long afterwards came the news of her passing, bringing tears and much sadness. After that came a period of inertia, which continued for much of the rest of the year. Thoughts of my own mortality, the uncertainty of the situation surrounding Brexit, and various other personal matters did nothing to improve my situation.

However, I have always loved the Christmas Season, and when the time came to get out the decorations and brighten the place up I began to feel more enthusiastic about life. Then a strange thing happened. I often watch one or other of the many movies that Doris made to cheer myself up (who could not feel better after that?). One evening I was trying to decide what to watch when I found 'Do not Disturb'. Now I don't know why, but I always thought the only Doris Day film I had never seen was 'Where were you when the lights went out?', because it's really hard to find. However when 'Do not Disturb' started I was surprised to find it was completely new to me. More than that, it was as if Doris was giving me a personal showing of the film. I can't explain it in any logical way, but I really felt part of it and I haven't laughed as much for a long time. The scene with the 'one man band' in the cafe is just hilarious especially when Doris tries to do it. I don't think Lucille Ball could have done that better. What a brilliant, uplifting film. Just what I needed!

So now I am looking forward to 2020 in a really positive way, and I hope to be posting more regularly. One of my first plans is to visit "a rare collection of garments, jewellery and accessories from the wardrobe of movie icon, Doris Day at the Museum of Style Icons, Newbridge, Co. Kildare (Ireland)". This is part of the collection to be auctioned in Los Angeles next April. I'll let you know what it's like (and take some photos if it's allowed), but here's a link to their website for now
https://visitnewbridgesilverware.com/doris-day

Once again, a Happy New Year!

Thank you so much Robert for your reflective, thoughtful and informative post. How fortunate you were to be able to visit Carmel last April. It must be a beautiful memory.

Doris Day's philosophy on living a happy life and wanting to make people laugh is an inspiring message for everyone. She demonstrated her authenticity in everything she did especially in her dedication, advocacy and care for animals.

I loved reading about your experience watching Doris Day's film Do Not Disturb. It makes me happy to know it raised your spirits. Isn't it remarkable how a fifty-four year old Doris Day film can bring such joy?

I love listening to Doris Day recordings on a weekly basis. Her voice is so tender and comforting. It creates an atmosphere of peace and joy which I believe is another part of Doris' legacy.

I also was fascinated reading about the Museum of Style Icons in Newbridge Co. Kildare that is showing a Doris Day wardrobe collection. This really illustrates Doris' fashion influence around the world. I would like to know if Doris ever visited Ireland.

I hope a Doris Day book on her fashion and style is published.

On the Toronto Shopping Channel jewellery collections replicas from style icons, Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly, Jaqueline Kennedy and Elizabeth Taylor are sold regularly. The reproductions are exact and are approved by the estates of these legends. Perhaps there will be a Doris Day collection available one day with the sales helping the Doris Day Animal Foundation.

Christmas is a beautiful season to remind us to appreciate our lives through kindness and good will.
This is what I wish for all the members on this joyful Doris Day Forum.

Robert, I look forward to more of your posts. Thank you. Happy New Year!!
Johnny

Thank you to Bryan and Puck for the perfect Doris Day banner to start a new year and a new decade.
I love the beauty in it's simplicity.

Love the banners from 2017 remembering DORIS DAY DAY in Cincinnati - thanks to Dr. Bob Maltz and Jackie Joseph, we got it done.
Stay tuned - there will be another celebration in Cincinnati honoring Doris - am working with people on this and as soon as all details are finalized, I will let everyone know. It's going to be exciting!!!!

Thanks for ALL you do Bryan!!!

Terrific banner for a terrific film.

I've always loved this movie and Doris hits it out of the park. She is sassy, tough, and brash on the outside but equally tender when it comes to love. It's one of her best performances, I think. Secret Love alone is enough reason for anyone to adore this film.

Thank you Bryan for another winner.

I am trying to figure out what Doris is holding in her hand. She looks so radiant in this photo.

Those are earphones, Johnny (I use them to listen to my audiobooks) they come in different sizes. She's probably listening to a pre-recorded orchestration where she and, in this case, Allyn McLerie, are recording the vocals. A good excuse for some images!

This is sweet and nostalgic black and white Doris banner for 2020. These banners are even more significant this year. They always serve as a warm and welcoming greeting to the Doris Day Forum.

I am wondering where the first photo of Doris was taken. It looks like it is from the early 1950's. I can't place it from one of her films.

The second photo of Doris and Stephen Boyd from Billy Rose's Jumbo is one of the most delightful scenes in the film.

Thank you Bryan!
