Unread post by Laurie »

Any one get a chance to watch the American Film Institutes: 10 Top 10 the other night? I was disappointed that Pillow Talk did not make it into the 10 Top 10 of Romantic Comedies.

Here is the list and web site for farther discussion. I am a big fan of Moonstruck. Snap out of it!!!!!

I'm sorry, but I absolutely do not agree with When Harry Met Sally and Sleepless in Seattle making the Top 10. And Pillow Talk should top both of them.

AFI never puts Doris in any of their lists. So I don't even watch them,

Well, that is just plain wrong. Even her films that the so-called critics gave bad reviews, were a thousand times better then what Hollywood puts out today. I like Meg Ryan, but she couldn't even be Doris Day's understudy.

I'm with you Barb. I never watch anything from AFI. It's ALL spin.

Pillow Talk? Sure, but "MUSICALS" didn't even make it into the top TEN "genres"! What does that tell you?

They're trying to appeal to a younger audience? Okay, musicals are supposed to be dead, but they still keep coming along (Dreamgirls, Hairspray, the list goes on)

This show aired on the day that Cyd Charisse had died.

The new Forum feels the same as driving on the OTHER side of the road in the U.K. It's there, and we're glad of it, but it's twisted, somehow. Maybe it seems 'just right' to those of you over there..

I intentionally didn't watch the show. I just knew I'd wind up feeling depressed!
Like Irene Dunne done.

I find it hard to believe that Pillow Talk didn't make it as well as Lover Come Back. Doris is by far the best comedy actress of all time. She's been left out a lot. She should have one an Oscar for Best Actress in Pillow Talk.

AFI Stinks. I mean more than half of what they picked were junk. Harold and Maude, When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle. Please. I was having a fit wactching it. Doris Day and her movies are never mentioned. That is a crime.

Oh and ANNIE HALL. I love Diane Keaton, but Woody Allen makes my skin crawl. His movies are so overrated and so is he.

I don't agree with several movies on the list!! Pillow Talk should have been in the top 10. Since they ignore Doris' movies I don't care to watch these shows.

THE MAJORITY of the shows WITH LISTS of BEST THIS and BEST THAT stink. And notice, Hollywood's all time top female movie star (our Doris) is NEVER on ANY of these lists. SO..SHE IS STILL being underrated and overlooked 50 years later!!!!!

I don't think the AFI "Best" lists have any credibility at this point.

I lost faith when they ran the first AFI list of the top 50 movie stars of all time. It made me furious that the female half of the list included lesser talents like Lauren Bacall and Ava Gardner, and they completely ignored Doris. This is an another example of the Hollywood elitist attitude that has kept Doris from being properly recognized for her contributions to film.
